“It’s good to be back in Guildford” says Courtney Marie Andrews, playing solo in Guildford on a whistle-stop media tour of the UK in advance of the release of her next album May Your Kindness Remain in March.
Three nights previously Andrews had picked up the award for Best International Artist at the UK Americana Award ceremony. The rise in popularity of this singer/songwriter from Arizona has been spectacular, particularly in the UK.
The show at The Keep was sold out within days of tickets going on sale, so Andrews added a matinee performance, which also promptly sold out. “I love this place, it’s like the bars I grew up playing in.” Andrews said in welcoming the audience.
She breezed through a selection of tracks from her forthcoming album and older material. The quality of her voice, her songwriting and relaxed performing style is exceptional. Her guitar style complements her heartfelt lyrics borne from observation of human interaction. It was a privilege to see her play in this intimate venue.
Andrews took to the piano to play two numbers in each set, mentioning that a lot of the new material for the next album was composed on the piano rather than the guitar.
Standout tracks from the shows included How Quickly Your Heart Mends, Put The Fire Out and Table For One from her last album Honest Life, and Rough Around The Edges, May Your Kindness Remain and Border from the forthcoming release.
Andrews is a very personable performer, telling the stories behind the songs whilst performing and happy to stick around after shows to chat to the audience. She will be back touring the UK in April with her full band.
